Sir Michal Tippett’s Suite in D

Tippett’s Suite in D (for the birthday of Prince Charles) was one of the key works in the orchestra’s repertoire during 1967. Sir Michael conducted it at the De Montfort Hall during the Schools Festival and again at the Fairfield Hall, Croydon. It was also included in the LSSO’s tour programme for Denmark and Germany later in the year. The orchestra made the first commercial recording of the Suite in D for the Pye label in July under the direction of the composer. The record was released in March 1968.
