The earliest LSSO recording in the archives
The majority of LSSO archived recordings from the Eric Pinkett era cover the period 1967 to 1976 and these recordings have been sourced from various radio broadcasts and commercial LP records. Nothing exists from the pre-60’s and the earliest sounds that have been uncovered were recorded on a small tape recorder during a concert at Hinckley Grammar School in 1964. The overture that night was a favourite LSSO pot boiler – Roman Carnival by Berlioz. Despite the dated sound quality it has been included here as a momento of the early 1960’s. Any earlier offerings would make a welcome addition to the archives.
Press articles relating to Roman Carnival can be seen in the reviews section of this website.
